A free GST calculator built for GST 2.0.
A GST calculator takes the guesswork out of India's Goods and Services Tax. Whether you're a shopkeeper pricing a product, a freelancer raising an invoice, or a buyer checking how much tax is built into a price, this tool shows the GST amount, the tax-inclusive total, and the exact split between central and state tax in real time. It is fully updated for the GST 2.0 rates that took effect on 22 September 2025, when the older 12% and 28% slabs were folded into a cleaner structure.
There are two ways to use it. Choose Add GST when you have a base (tax-exclusive) price and want to know the final amount a customer pays — the calculator multiplies by the rate and adds the tax on top. Choose Remove GST when you already have a tax-inclusive figure (say, an MRP) and want to work backwards to the original amount and the GST hidden inside it. The reverse calculation divides the total by one plus the rate, which is the correct way to extract GST from an inclusive price.
CGST, SGST and IGST explained
GST is collected by both the central and state governments. For a sale within the same state — an intra-state supply — the total GST is divided equally into CGST (the central share) and SGST (the state share). For a sale between two states — an inter-state supply — the entire amount is charged as a single IGST. The total tax you pay is identical; only the way it is shared changes. Use the supply-type toggle to see the breakdown that applies to your invoice.
The standard rate for most goods and services is now 18%, daily essentials sit at 5%, and luxury or sin goods such as tobacco and high-end cars attract 40%. Special rates of 3% on gold and silver and 0.25% on rough diamonds continue, and a long list of items — fresh food, education and most health and life insurance — remain exempt at 0%. Because the exact rate depends on a product's HSN or SAC code, always confirm the classification for your item. Everything here runs privately in your browser, with no account, no limit, and nothing uploaded.
Disclaimer: Results are estimates for informational purposes only and not tax advice. GST rates depend on the exact HSN/SAC classification — verify the applicable rate before filing or invoicing.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What are the new GST 2.0 rates in India?
From 22 September 2025, India's GST was simplified into a smaller set of slabs under what is widely called GST 2.0. The main rates are now 0% (nil/exempt for daily essentials, education and most health and life insurance), 5% (common household and packaged items), 18% (the standard rate for most goods and services) and 40% (luxury and sin goods such as tobacco, pan masala and high-end vehicles). Special rates of 0.25% (rough diamonds) and 3% (gold, silver and other precious metals) remain. The earlier 12% and 28% slabs were removed.
How do I calculate GST on an amount?
To add GST, multiply the base amount by the GST rate and add it back: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100, and total = amount + GST. To remove GST from a tax-inclusive price, divide by (1 + rate ÷ 100) to get the original amount, then subtract that from the total to find the GST included. This calculator does both instantly — choose Add GST or Remove GST, enter the amount, pick the rate, and it shows the GST, the total, and the CGST/SGST or IGST split.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
For a sale within the same state (intra-state), the total GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) — so 18% GST becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For a sale between two different states (inter-state), the whole amount is charged as IGST (Integrated GST) instead. The total tax is the same either way; only the way it is divided between the centre and the state changes. Use the Intra-state / Inter-state toggle to see the correct breakdown.
Which GST rate applies to my product?
The rate depends on the specific goods or service and its HSN/SAC code. As a rough guide under GST 2.0: daily essentials and many packaged foods fall under 5%; most goods and services such as appliances, electronics and clothing sit at the 18% standard rate; luxury and sin items like tobacco and large cars are taxed at 40%; and items such as fresh food, education and most insurance are exempt at 0%. Always verify the exact HSN code for your product, as rates can vary by item.
Is this GST calculator free and accurate?
Yes. The calculator is completely free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded. The arithmetic (adding GST, removing GST, and splitting into CGST/SGST/IGST) is exact for the rate you select. Because GST rates depend on the precise HSN/SAC classification of your goods or service, treat the result as an accurate calculation for the rate you choose rather than tax advice — confirm the applicable rate for your item before filing.
