About this tool
Know your grade before it's final
Most courses don't grade everything equally — your final might be worth 30% while weekly homework adds up to 20%. A grade calculator turns those weights into a single, accurate course grade, and answers the question every student types into a search bar before exams: "what do I need on the final?" This tool does both.
In weighted grade mode, add a row for each assessment — homework, quizzes, projects, midterm, final — and enter your score, the maximum possible, and the percentage weight it carries. The calculator converts each to a percentage, scales it by its weight, and sums them into your overall grade, along with the matching letter grade. It also displays your total weight so you can confirm the components add up to 100% for a complete course grade.
In final exam mode, enter your current grade, the weight of the final, and the overall grade you're aiming for. Using the standard formula — required = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight — it tells you the exact score you need on the final. It also flags the two edge cases clearly: if the number comes out above 100% the target isn't reachable from the final alone, and if it's zero or below you've already locked in your grade.
Running these numbers before exam week takes the guesswork out of revision: you can see whether you need to push hard for an A or simply protect a comfortable B, and prioritise accordingly. Everything is calculated privately in your browser, so your scores never leave your device. Pair it with the study planner to turn the target into a revision schedule.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
A weighted grade reflects that some assessments count more than others. For each component — homework, quizzes, midterm, final — enter your score, the maximum, and its weight as a percentage of the course. The calculator converts each to a percentage, multiplies by its weight, and adds them up. The weights should total 100% for a complete course grade.
How do I find what I need on my final exam?
Switch to the 'final exam' mode and enter your current grade in the course, the final's weight (for example 30%), and the overall grade you're aiming for. The calculator solves for the score you need on the final using the formula: required = (target − current × (1 − weight)) ÷ weight.
What does it mean if I need over 100% or below 0%?
If the required score is above 100%, your target grade isn't reachable from the final alone — you'd need impossible marks, so aim for the best you can. If it's at or below 0%, you've already secured your target even with a zero on the final. The tool tells you which situation applies.
Do the weights have to add up to 100%?
For a true overall grade, yes — the weighted mode shows your total weight so you can check. If the components you enter don't sum to 100%, the result is the weighted average of just those parts, which is still useful for a partial picture before the rest is graded.
Is my data private?
Yes. All calculations run in your browser and your scores are never uploaded or stored anywhere.
