About this tool
Calculating your GPA
In the US grading system, your GPA (Grade Point Average) condenses your performance into a single number on a 4.0 scale, and it's what colleges, scholarships and employers look at first. This GPA calculator handles both the GPA for a single term and your overall cumulative GPA across your whole programme.
The key idea is that GPA is credit-weighted: a four-credit course influences your average far more than a one-credit seminar. Each letter grade maps to grade points — A and A+ are 4.0, A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, and so on down to F at 0.0. The calculator multiplies each course's points by its credits, adds them, and divides by your total credits. Just add a row per course, choose its grade and credit hours, and your semester GPA appears instantly, with the full scale shown below for reference.
For your cumulative GPA, switch to the second tab and enter your previous cumulative GPA with the credits it covers, plus this term's GPA and credits. The tool blends them in proportion to their credits, giving the new overall figure exactly as your registrar would calculate it — useful for tracking whether you're on course for a target like a 3.5 for graduate school or honours.
Knowing your GPA in advance helps you plan: you can see how a strong or weak semester will move your cumulative average, and decide where to focus. Everything is computed privately in your browser, so your grades stay confidential. If you're on a 10-point scale instead, use the CGPA calculator, and try the grade calculator to work out what you need on an upcoming final.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
On the US 4.0 scale, each letter grade maps to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). GPA is the credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credits. Add a row per course, pick its grade and credits, and the calculator does this instantly.
What's the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA covers only the courses in one term. Cumulative GPA (CGPA in the US sense) blends every term you've completed into one overall figure. Use the 'semester' tab for a single term, and the 'cumulative' tab to combine your previous GPA and credits with this term's.
How do I calculate my cumulative GPA?
Enter your previous cumulative GPA and the total credits it covers, then this semester's GPA and its credits. The calculator weights each by its credits and combines them into a new cumulative GPA, exactly as your registrar does.
Does the calculator handle plus and minus grades?
Yes. It uses the common scale where A− is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B− is 2.7, and so on. A and A+ are both treated as 4.0, which is the most widely used convention, though a few schools cap A+ differently — check your institution's official scale if in doubt.
Is my data private?
Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser and your grades are never uploaded or stored.
