How to count the days between two dates
Counting the days between two dates by hand is fiddly — you have to track month lengths, leap years and weekends, and it's easy to be off by a day. This days between dates calculator removes all of that. Enter a start date and an end date and it instantly returns the total number of days, the same span expressed in weeks (with the leftover days), an approximate breakdown in months, the number of working days from Monday to Friday, and how many days fall on a weekend.
The breakdown matters because "days" can mean different things. For a hotel booking or holiday you usually want the total calendar days; for a delivery estimate or a contractual notice period you want working days only. By showing both side by side, the tool answers whichever question you have without a second calculation. The optional include end date switch lets you decide whether both endpoints are counted — the difference between counting nights and counting days.
The dates can be in any order: if the end date is earlier than the start date, the tool swaps them automatically so the result is always a positive number, and a dedicated swap button reverses the two with one click. Frequently asked questions
How do I count the number of days between two dates?
Enter a start date and an end date, and the calculator subtracts one from the other to give the exact number of days between them. By default it counts the gap (so the start day isn't double-counted); tick 'Include end date' if you want both endpoints counted, which is useful for things like counting the total days of a holiday or hotel stay.
What's the difference between total days and working days?
Total days counts every calendar day in the range, including weekends. Working days (also called business days) counts only Monday to Friday, which is what matters for delivery times, project deadlines and notice periods. This tool shows both at once, along with how many of the days fall on a weekend.
Does the calculator include or exclude the end date?
By default the end date is excluded, so the result is the number of nights or whole days between the two dates. Tick the 'Include end date' option to count it as well — for example, a Monday-to-Friday range is 4 days excluding the end date, or 5 days including it.
Can I count days for a date in the past or future?
Yes. The dates can be in any order and anywhere in time — past, present or future. If you enter the end date before the start date the calculator simply swaps them, so you always get a positive count. There's also a swap button to reverse them with one click.
Is this date counter free and private?
