About this tool
What is your ideal weight?
"What should I weigh?" is one of the most common health questions, and there's no single right answer — which is exactly why this ideal weight calculator shows you several. It runs four respected medical formulas — Hamwi, Devine, Robinson and Miller — each of which estimates a healthy weight from your height and sex, then gives you their average so you have one balanced figure to aim near rather than four competing ones.
These formulas were developed at different times and for different purposes; the Devine formula, for instance, began as a way to calculate medication doses. They use slightly different coefficients, so their results differ by a few kilograms, and the spread itself is informative — it shows that healthy weight is a band, not a precise point. Alongside the formulas, the tool calculates the weight range that corresponds to a normal BMI (18.5 to 24.9) for your height, giving you a sensible, evidence-based range to target.
Because the formulas rely only on height and sex, they can't see frame size, muscle mass or body composition. Someone with a larger frame or significant muscle may sit comfortably above their formula "ideal" while being perfectly healthy, and a very lean person may sit below it. The number is best used as a reference point, not a goal to hit exactly — pair it with body fat percentage and BMI for a rounder view.
As with all the health tools here, this is general educational information, not medical advice; your healthy weight is best confirmed with a qualified healthcare professional who knows your full history. The calculation runs privately in your browser, so your details never leave your device. Choose your units and enter your height above to see your range, then explore the BMI and body fat calculators.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How is ideal weight calculated?
This calculator runs four established medical formulas — Hamwi, Devine, Robinson and Miller — which each estimate a healthy body weight from your height and sex, with men and women using slightly different coefficients. It shows all four results plus their average, and also a healthy weight range derived from the normal BMI band (18.5–24.9) for your height.
Why are there four different formulas?
Each formula was developed at a different time for a different purpose — Devine, for example, was originally created for medication dosing. They give slightly different numbers, so showing all four and their average gives a more balanced, realistic target than relying on any single one.
Should I aim for exactly my ideal weight?
No. 'Ideal weight' is a guideline, not a precise target. Healthy weight is a range, not a single number, and factors like muscle mass, frame size and body composition mean a weight slightly above or below the formula figure can be perfectly healthy. Use the BMI-based range as a sensible band to aim within.
Does the calculator work for all body types?
The formulas are based on height and sex only, so they don't account for frame size or muscularity. A heavily muscled person may sit above their 'ideal' weight while being very healthy. Pair the result with body fat percentage and a conversation with a healthcare professional for a complete picture.
Is my data private?
Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — your height and other details are never uploaded or stored anywhere.
