About this tool

How to check your ATS score

Most large companies run every resume through an applicant tracking system (ATS) before a recruiter sees it. The ATS parses your resume and scores it against the job, so a strong candidate with a poorly matched resume can be filtered out automatically. A free ATS resume checker helps you avoid that by showing exactly how your resume lines up with a specific posting.

Upload your resume or paste the text, paste the job description, choose the company type, and click Check ATS Score. You'll get an overall score out of 100, a breakdown of keyword match, section coverage, formatting and readability, and a list of the keywords you already match (green) versus the ones you're missing (red). Add the missing keywords that genuinely reflect your experience, fix any formatting flags, and re-check until your score is strong.

The entire analysis runs in your browser, so your resume is never uploaded. When you're done, save the report as a PDF, then use the AI Resume Optimizer to rewrite weak bullet points, or the Resume Builder to start from an ATS-friendly template.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does this ATS checker work?

It analyzes your resume against a specific job description entirely in your browser. It extracts the important keywords and skills from the job posting, checks which ones appear in your resume, and combines that keyword match with formatting, section and readability checks — weighted for the company type you choose — into a single 0–100 ATS score, with the keywords you have and are missing listed out.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

No. The ATS Score Checker runs 100% client-side. Your resume and the job description never leave your device — there's no server, no account and no storage. You can use it on sensitive documents with confidence.

What's a good ATS score?

As a rule of thumb, 75 or higher is a strong match, 50–74 means you should add missing keywords and tighten formatting, and below 50 means the resume isn't well aligned with that specific job yet. Scores are relative to each job description, so re-check for every application.

Why does company type matter?

Different employers weight resumes differently. FAANG and big tech reward quantified impact and scale; startups value breadth and ownership; enterprises and government weight process, compliance and certifications. The checker adjusts the score and tips based on the company type you select.

Can I upload a PDF or Word file?

Yes — upload a .pdf, .docx or .txt and the tool extracts the text in your browser, or just paste your resume text directly. Text-based PDFs work well; scanned image-only PDFs can't be read, so paste the text in that case. You can also save the full analysis as a PDF report.
