Turn any savings goal into a clear, achievable plan.
A savings goal calculator takes the guesswork out of saving for the things that matter — an emergency fund, a home down payment, a dream holiday, a new car, a wedding, or a child's education. Instead of hoping you'll get there eventually, you get a concrete answer: either how long it will take at your current pace, or exactly how much to set aside each month to hit a deadline.
The tool works two ways. In "How long will it take?" mode, you enter your goal, what you've already saved, and your monthly contribution, and it tells you the time to reach the goal plus the interest you'll earn along the way. In "How much do I need to save?" mode, you enter your goal and a deadline, and it tells you the monthly amount required — with and without interest — so you can see exactly how compounding helps.
Preset goals and a live progress bar
The preset chips fill in sensible targets instantly. Choose Emergency Fund and enter your monthly expenses to set a goal of six months' costs; choose Down Payment and enter a home price to target 20%; or pick a vacation, car, education, or wedding goal for a typical starting figure you can adjust. As you type, the progress bar shows how far along you already are, and a motivational message tells you whether your goal is months or years away.
You can switch the currency at any time, and every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded or stored. That makes it easy to test different monthly amounts, deadlines, and interest rates until you find a plan that fits your budget. Pair it with the compound interest and retirement calculators to build a complete picture of your financial goals.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate how long it takes to reach a savings goal?
Switch to the 'How long will it take?' mode, enter your goal amount, what you've already saved, and how much you can set aside each month. If your savings earn interest, add the annual rate. The calculator simulates your balance month by month — adding your contribution and any interest — until it reaches your goal, then shows the exact time, your total contributions, and the interest you earn along the way. Increasing your monthly amount or interest rate shortens the timeline.
How much should I save each month to reach my goal?
Switch to the 'How much do I need to save?' mode, enter your goal, current savings, and the time you have. The calculator works out the monthly amount needed to get there, accounting for any interest your money earns. It also shows what you'd need without interest versus with interest, so you can see how much compounding helps. If your existing savings already grow to the goal in time, the required monthly amount can even be zero.
How big should my emergency fund be?
A common guideline is three to six months of essential expenses, kept in an easily accessible account. Use the Emergency Fund preset chip and enter your monthly expenses — the calculator sets your goal to six months' worth automatically. If your income is irregular or you support dependents, aim for the higher end; if you have very stable income and low fixed costs, three months may be enough. The point is to cover rent, food, and bills if your income stops temporarily.
How much should I save for a house down payment?
A typical down payment is around 20% of the home price, which helps you avoid mortgage insurance and secures better loan terms, though many lenders accept less. Use the Down Payment preset and enter the home price — the calculator fills the goal with 20% automatically. You can then switch modes to see either how long it takes to save that amount at your current rate, or how much you'd need to set aside monthly to hit a target date.
Does this savings goal calculator account for interest?
Yes. The annual interest rate field is optional and defaults to zero, but if you enter a rate the calculator compounds your balance monthly in both modes. This matters for longer goals: at 6–8% a year, interest can cover a meaningful share of your target, reducing how much you need to contribute yourself. Leave it at zero for a plain cash-savings plan, or add your expected return to model a high-yield savings account, recurring deposit, or investment.
